Clinical Data Easily Converts To SSIMED EMRge

A switch to SSIMED EMR results in continuity of clinical data when moving from another
Medcin based EMR

Windsor, CT, October 19, 2006 — SSIMED, LLC, provider of medical practice management software and services, is happy to announce the successful implementation of Dr. Brian Procter on SSIMED’s EMRge™ electronic medical record application.  Dr. Procter had previously been using another EMR system before he decided to switch to EMRge.  All of his Medcin based patient clinical data from his old system were transferred in their original format to his new SSIMED system.

This success is driven by SSIMED’s choice of clinical presentation engines.  “We explored many options for the clinical engine while developing EMRge and decided the Medcin engine from Medicomp Systems was the clear winner,” stated Frank Perrotta, Executive Vice President and CIO of SSIMED.  “It is compatible with SNOMED nomenclature but offers greater flexibility and is capable of capturing more detailed clinical information."

Doctors who have purchased an EMR system based upon the MEDCIN clinical presentation engine can convert to another MEDCIN based EMR and retain all their clinical data.  This summer, SSIMED successfully converted Dr. Brian Procter from McKinney, Texas to SSIMED EMRge.  Dr. Procter’s prior EMR system was based on the MEDCIN engine so all the clinical data were retained in their original format.

“When I purchased the first EMR for my clinic in 2004 I decided to buy a Medcin based EMR. There were several reasons for this.  First, it is based on a coded nomenclature so I am able to document and code more correctly.  Second, I would be able to convert the clinical data to another system if my product didn’t continue to meet my needs.  The soundness of that decision was validated when my EMR company stopped supporting their product in early 2006.  Because of the Medcin standard, I converted to SSIMED (a Medcin based EMR) seamlessly.  I was shocked at the ease of this transition.  I not only had all of my data but I was able to use it for searches and charting.  I could even pull my old encounters forward for assistance with follow-up visits.  We truly have reached a new era in medical documentation!”  Quoted Brian C. Procter, MD.

“SSIMED’s accomplishment is a great demonstration of true interoperability,” according to Peter S. Goltra, CEO of Medicomp Systems.  “This provides assurance to anyone using Medcin that patient data can be transferred to any system of their choosing.”
